1st Be-Optical School, November 14-18, Göttingen.
14-18 November 2016, Göttingen, Germany

Introductory courses on Biophotonics, Biomedical Imaging, cardiac electrophysiology and optogenetics:
The chair of this event is Prof. Ulrich Parlitz, Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, Göttingen, Germany. The school will take place in Göttingen at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and
Self-Organization, from 14th to 18th November 2016. The core of this five-day school consists in a series of interdisciplinary courses presented by members of BE-OPTICAL, which are experts in their fields, as well as external invited lecturers, who will complement the network’s training capacity. The courses will have at least 6 hours of lectures.
COURSES:
Introduction to Biophotonics: interaction of light with cells & tissue, optical biosensors, optogenetics, lasers for bio-manipulation, tissue engineering.
Biomedical Imaging: overview of biomedical optics, light sources, detectors, substrates and optical components for biomedical imaging, illumination and imaging system design and modelling, different imaging modalities, the pros and cons of commercially devices.
Introduction to cardiac electrophysiology and optogenetics: excitable media, spiral and scroll waves, phase singularities and filaments, wave breakup and spatio- temporal chaos, mathematical models of cardiomyocytes, mono and bidomain modelling, heterogeneities and virtual electrodes, optical mapping of membrane potential and Ca concentration.
